It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve written anything and I promise I haven’t stopped blogging—in actuality there are about 10 posts written in my head, but finding the time to sit and write them out has been difficult of late due to family life stuff. But that’s another post altogether—one that is actually partially written.

I am just coming off an A.MAZ.ING weekend in Seattle and Washington state where I had the crazy awesome opportunity to run Ragnar Northwest Passage with Team Nuun Hydration! I have so many memories and experiences—not to mention the most important met some wonderful people who I now consider among my friends!

While I try to figure out how to put those experiences into words that do justice to the experience I had, I wanted to share with you a recipe that I’ve had written up for a few weeks now. One of the things that I love to use the most in the summer is barbecue sauce. Alas, the bottle brands tend to be filled with unnecessary ingredients and preservatives. Making my own barbecue sauce has been something that I used to do a lot when I was a teenager with my cousin, Amanda.

Work With Me Baby BBQ Sauce–Fit Moms & Full Plates

Every year she would have a big July 4th family barbecue and we’d make a big batch of doctored up barbecue sauce for the chicken that would be grilled. We dubbed it “Work With Me Baby BBQ Sauce” simply because we’d make it with whatever was in the pantry or refrigerator at the time. Over the years, I’ve shied away from using pre-bought barbecue sauce as my base and literally make it from scratch. Despite it being a set recipe that I use now and no longer a mishmash of whatever I could find, I’ve decided to use the name “Work With Me Baby BBQ Sauce” because of all the great memories it conjures up in my head. The best part of this barbecue sauce—it’s Paleo friendly! This is a great recipe to use as a base—you can adjust the heat and the smoke of this sauce by adjusting the spices. This recipe, as written however, isn’t overly spicy as my 18-month old Mr. Man eats it without protest. A note for moms—if your kids are as addicted to catsup as mine are, this is a pretty good substitute!
